Little sum up from my original post to now. I have been soaking up life as much as possible during this internship. I made a 2 day trip to Birmingham a couple of weeks ago for a concert, going to every concert I can within reason lately tbh , I rock climb 3x per week, and am in the middle of implementing/installing garden beds at my house. I have proven my ability in CAD and as a reward I received... a lot more CAD work. I enjoy it if I am being honest. Since my first post I have now completed two code minimum issue for review landscape plans. The first was a Race Trac in Crowley and the second for a Rouses in Chalmette, cool full circle kind of moment. Code minimums are not exciting by any means and vary greatly—well, by the code—but they have been great for refining my knowledge of office standards and producing sheet sets. Did a handful of construction submittal reviews which can be semi engaging due to the nature of contractor negligence or as fun as reading the literature for a...

Hello everyone! I hope everyone's lives are going great and yalls internships are fun right now. I had a more interesting past 2 weeks, so more pics 🥳. Last Friday the office was invited to tour Belgard Commercial's manufacturing plant here in Houston. Belgard specialize in a few hardscape products such as concrete pavers, porcelain pavers, retaining walls, and rooftop pavers and supports. It was super fun and interesting to see the behind-the-scenes processes that go into mass producing some of the products we spec. This is a quick summary of my experience, just thought I would share. I might not be remembering a few details right but I'm trying my best. The process begins with various bits of rock getting dumped into a funnel (yellow cage on the left) where it gets conveyed up to that rectangular structure in the top right. The rock gets sorted, sifted, and screened as it drops into a couple different hoppers. Different ratios of color compounds, additives, aggregate, c...

Wenk #5+6

As I wrap up my spring internship at Wenk in Denver before transitioning to EDSA Denver, I have been extremely busy with work. I have been working on a really cool model for a farm park in Berthoud while also continuing to help design my local neighborhood park. It has been exciting to see that project from start to finish and to be part of the full design process, something I was not expecting as an intern. This week, we also spent time cleaning up trash at a nature center for Earth Day. Afterward, we had lunch at a nearby park that was designed by Wenk. It was a great reminder of the impact thoughtful landscape architecture can have on the community and the environment. Outside of work, I have also been living life to the fullest by spending time with friends, family, and plenty of puppy dogs. The weather has been amazing lately, and I am already starting to get my summer sunburn.

Sup guys,  Not much has really happened since my last blog. Just still grinding at work and on a bunch of different projects. I have been doing a whole lot of construction documents and issuing sets which isn't the most fun but I am learning a whole lot. We have had some deadlines of our really cool projects these past couple weeks so recently the whole office has been super busy.  I have also taken some more site visits recently. One was to a residential house on the Katy Trail here in Dallas, and the project just began construction so it was mostly just a check up to see if everything is going accordingly to plan and thankfully it was. Another site visit was last Monday and it was to a plaza in front of a big commercial/residential building also here in Dallas and we just were basically checking site inventory making sure there wasn't anything on the architectural plans that wasn't actually there and vice versa.  Outside of work, I haven't done to much other than work...

Hi y'all, it's me back with another post. So I have finally gotten out of the office! Wooohooo! Last Tuesday I went on a little adventure to two different nurseries. One being the Landscape Center in Riverside, where we looked at purchasing 4 Tipu trees for along the streetscape. Also as of January this year they started leasing more land to grow more trees, so I got to check out the early stages where they are growing Oaks, Pines, Olive Trees, and much more! Then our next stop we went to another nursery in Temecula. There we looked at getting 6 different Strawberry trees which is an OJB staple. This brought me back to the Chicago days when we visited Kaneville Tree Farms learning about leaders and trying to understand how the trees will mature. Well same applied with our visit. With the strawberry trees we were also looking at multistems so we really wanted to focus on the form of the tree. It was really fun actually tagging the trees and measuring them as well. We measure the...

Hello All,  Nice 2 weeks it has been, hope yall r still having fun, not much longer left. Let's start the blog off with a video. Hope yall can see it, it's a cute dog on the T, which is the subway here. Have been working on some tokens for a community engagement for the current project, quite fun have to laser cut and glue them, Must have made like 200 of these? For all kinds of different programs, very interesting artistic style for this project, never tried this style before. Here's some. And here is the base we used for it. Again interesting artistic style. Snowed here in Boston last week, which is insane, looking forward for actual spring if i get any. Got to go on a site visit measuring slope for this project as well, got to visit the MASSIVE high school and elementary. Never seen this kind of size for them, the high school photo is from online. And the building in the selfie is the elementary, right next to our site. For the weekend we went to play ping pong  again...

DDG Week 8-12 (Eileen)

I can't believe we're already halfway through the semester (during the time I'm writing this, more than halfway through the semester lol). During this time I had created a bunch of construction documents by myself for the first time which was really intimidating and intense. It was crunch time because I had a week to get those construction documents done, and when I finally thought it was over, there was something left to change...  Besides that project, I was working on some details for a Sportsplex and some smaller projects just helping here and there. :)  And to add to the calendar design, Luke and I updated it to the April theme, which obviously would have to be Easter/spring-driven.

Howdy Folks,      I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying your time on internship. Unfortunately, we are pretty much out of spring here in Baton Rouge and summer weather is creeping in. For all you in more temperate climates, please enjoy your cool weather for me.      Over the past weeks, I have gotten to both work on new projects, and carry older ones into new phases. For one project I have been getting to work in Illustrator, which has been fun after working almost solely in Vectorworks since I have gotten here. I also have been getting to work on the Campus Mounds project, specifically the demolition plan, which is very intricate due to the importance of protecting the mounds themselves, but needing to remove multiple foreign objects from on top of them (the currently fenced-off sidewalks and walls).       Also exciting, since Isa and I have started, Carbo has started some new landscape beds, in partnership with two diff...

Philip Moser - Mason Phillips - Blog 6 🔼🔼Spot-Man🔼🔼                          This has certainly been an interesting two weeks, all focused at the same project. We started by consulting the plan agreed upon by the clients  (nicest people I've interacted with in ages) We continued to get materials hauled onto site, a whoooooole lot of rocks and gravel. My first task I got to do all on my own was layout the flower bed with some stumbled cobble. Next came th concrete work, we worked on creating a level base for the stone masons to work off of for the CMU's.  Rob, our client, took out his hot rod for a cruise and we got to gaze upon its beauty while we worked.  Next up was planting around 42 aspidistra plants, which proved much harddr than expected due to the root matrix of a Water oak, Red Maple, and Sycamore in that order.  As spring rolls into the summer, all the critters have com...
