OJB/Populous??? (Houston) - Taylor - 8
Hello everyone! I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their internships. It's almost been 4 months! I'll be staying until here until August so I'll be here for the most part of the year which is crazy to think about.
Anyways crazy news at the firm, OJB has been acquired by Populous design group π€―. If you weren't familiar with them (I wasn't) they are a global design firm that have offices across the globe with regional headquarters in KC, London, and Brisbane. They are most known for creating large scale public spaces like stadiums and entertainment ventures. The primary goal of this integration in design is to extend the firm's internal influence on the space that surround those large gathering spaces.
Jim Burnett, OJB's founder, and a couple of Populous' global directors actually visited the Houston office to announce the news. So I got a front row seat to it in person, which I never imagined I would experience during this internship. I'm curious to see how this transition will go over the next couple months and how that will change my perspective on the firm, because I've absolutely loved my time here and I was incredibly interested in coming back after graduation if it was offered.
Here's a comp of some of their work
I'm a really big sports fan so Populous' portfolio of work definitely intrigues me. The fact that they did Yankee Stadium is already winning me over.
Besides that news, work and life have been great! I've been doing a bit more CAD documentation over the past 2 weeks; RFI's, furniture plans, planting changes, master base revisions. I also got to see some of my supervisors do a bit of conceptual design work for a change. Most of the projects I've seen have been in DD or CD, so I haven't been able to do much conceptual design. We're tracking back on a portion of UH, so I'll be seeing that a touch more now π₯³.
My uncles will be boiling crawfish all summer, so bet I'll be in BR every weekend. Fiend for that crawdaddy π¦π«π». Safe travels to everyone heading somewhere as well!
