Joseph Cochran - HOCKER Design Group - #1
Sup guys, hope everyone is enjoying their time off of school lol. I’ve been here at Hocker Design Group in Dallas, Texas around a month now. I started on January 26, but it took a while to get my invite into the blog system.
I’ll start by explaining about Hocker Design Group. Hocker specializes in residential design which is super interesting to me and personally what I see myself working with in the future. They work on projects ranging from single family homes, penthouses, rooftop gardens, and even some ranches and estates. It’s a smaller sized firm, there is about 12 people in office and 2 more that work remote. I enjoy it here because everyone for the most part works on every project.
So far I have touched about 10 different projects, whether that be conceptual design, presentations showing design options, schematic plans, sketchup modeling, Lumion perspectives, CD and DD cad sheets, etc. I’m really enjoying it because I am touching so many different types of tasks.
One project I would like to highlight that I am working on is a super cool penthouse here in Dallas. It’s technically confidential so I can’t tell you lots of information but it is a three story residence on top of a hotel that is being built. Each floor has an outdoor patio/garden so I have worked on some modeling and renderings of that which is super crazy.
Another one I can quickly cover is another single family residence here in Dallas. It was one of the first projects that they put me on and personally I have been designing/modeling the front pedestrian and vehicular gates as well as just overall front appeal whether that include planting and material selection. I have also played around with creating presentations showing the different options and views. (I don’t have these views and presentations on my phone so I can’t show you)
Yeah so far it’s been fun. It’s nice to work a real job with a nice paycheck which i’m sure everyone is enjoying as well. Dallas itself is super cool except for aweful traffic. I haven’t really done much exploring around the city except going to some restaurants and a bar with friends on the weekends. After work I pretty much just work out and make dinner and then I’m tired from the day. And yeah hope everyone is enjoying their internship again. I’ll include some photos below from my time here.
A view of the office
A site visit to an almost finished project in Fort Worth. A crazy backyard with a man made water fall like element. Super nice pool deck and fire pit area as well.
Another site visit to a super crazy house being built. They haven’t started much construction on landscape except for rough grading around the house so I tagged along with project manager to just check out what the progress has been
See yall again in two weeks
Cant see the pics :(
