OJB (Solana Beach) Greg Crawford

Hello everyone! I hope you’ve all had a great start to your internships these past few weeks. I began mine on January 12th, and so far it has been an amazing experience.

I’m currently interning at OJB, and I already feel like I’ve touched almost every software possible since being here like Rhino, Lumion, AutoCAD, Illustrator, Photoshop, and the list goes on. During my first week, I worked on rendering a Photoshop plan, which took forever! The site had a lot of historical elements, and I also had to tie in new design ideas for a really cool resort project near Los Angeles. Since then, I’ve done some diagramming, CAD sections, and a lot of process work moving from AutoCAD into Rhino and then into Lumion.

One thing that has really surprised me is the variety of projects I’ve been able to work on. I’ve touched everything from hospitality and mixed-use developments to parks and public spaces. Everyone in the office is super nice and always willing to help, which is great because I definitely ask a lot of questions.

What’s also been cool is connecting with LSU alumni in the Solana Beach office. There are four others: Jim Burnett, Nathan Elliot, Minghan Lin, and Jonah Foster, Geaux Tigers!!! The office vibe is great. We usually have music playing while we work, and every Thursday the office gets food. This week was pizza, which was a win.

Outside of work, I’ve really enjoyed exploring the San Diego area. I’ve been to the beach, hiking, biking, and trying way too much good food. If you love Mexican food as much as I do, this is definitely the place to be, the tacos are amazing!! One of my favorite spots so far has been the San Diego Zoo. It’s unreal. I spent over six hours there and still didn’t see everything, so I became a member to go back whenever I want :)

Since I’m in Solana Beach, I’ve also been able to reconnect with family. My cousin and his wife live about 15 minutes from my apartment, and we’ve done something every weekend, which has been really nice since I’m out here on my own.

Overall, it’s been a very positive experience, and I’m excited to keep learning. I can’t wait to hear about everyone else’s internships and what you’ve all been working on. I’ll leave some food and adventure photos below!

I guess I'll be brave for once and post first lol. I also have nothing to do right now and everyone around me are in meetings I wasn't invited to 😞. I started at OJB early last month, January 12, as I imagine a lot of y'all have as well. My first couple days consisted of onboarding paperwork, software setup, and getting to meet the rest of the team. Chandler, my desk buddy and the main guy who finds me things to do, had me update some rhino models and Lumion renderings to begin with. The highlight of my first week though had to be making it onto the website. I felt way too proud of that. You gotta scroll all the way down to the bottom to find me 😂.  I began some real work doing grading studies for a clock/art installation/stage/tower/overlook over at the University of Houston. WENK(Denver) Alex Smith

Hey guys! Hope all is well at school or on your internships! Some background about where I am working for the currently, Wenk is a landscape architecture office based in Denver that works on a huge range of projects, from more urban park spaces to campus planning and tons of wetland restoration. So far, I’ve been lucky enough to work on six different projects, which has made every day feel different and exciting. A big chunk of my time has been spent on two master plan renderings. I have also been working on a community outreach presentation for a local park 2 mins from my house! Looking forward to drawing concepts this  upcoming Friday ! They’ve been both tedious and oddly relaxing at the same time. During my first week, I also got to go on a couple of site visits, which was a great way to dive in. Stoss (Boston) Yulin Mo 1

 First two week went quite well, started on the 12th as well, got to enjoy dinner with Jack as he's working at STIMSON,    Started the week with on boarding to a competition project for the University of Buffalo, worked the whole week on rhino and diagrams, and was getting on boarded to the Moakley Project, had a very short due on the UoB project, worked for a good amount of time, got to enjoy Saturdays, went to the museum of arts, and ate lobster roll. Had to work on Sunday and Monday to push deadlines but I'm getting comp time for it thou so all good. Deadline was due on Wednesday so pushed that and did some graphics for the competition, got it done Wednesday afternoon, got Friday off and only worked Thursday half day on finishing and cleaning up boards and graphics.    Got to reunion with Yanchi on the weekend. Wonderful city, loving it, food is to kill for, and commute is decently easy without a car, miss my cats but life been good.
