DDG - Luke

Somehow it has already been three and a half weeks of internship... Eileen and I are actually both here at DDG in BR and it has been great so far. We really hit the ground running and were working on projects about four hours into the first day. I already feel like I have been able to work on a wide range of projects in various stages of the design process!

Setup kinda nice

Eileen and I are responsible for weekly construction progress surveys / site visits at Greenwood Community Park. My main goal here is getting the contractors to let me drive any form of heavy machinery👹.

The office culture is pretty relaxed. It is cool to be in a multidisciplinary office and get to see how other professions contribute to projects. I have been able to do a good bit of planting design so far and I hope to continue to. Had the opportunity to work on a native focused site in Texas. Really enjoyed researching plants beyond what we typically see in Louisiana. DDG is nearly 50/50 on public and privatized work so we have been able to see a bit of both realms so far. Every week we work on deliverables for the city of St. George pertaining to enhancements and beautification (signage, planting design, etc). On the second week of internship we visited two of DDG's completed park projects, one in Sulphur and Moncus Park in Lafayette. Below are photos from / in the very cool tree house at Moncus Park.

Enjoying a healthy work-life balance
