CLH (Cary) - Jacob 1
My first couple of weeks here in Cary have gone really well. I'm enjoying the colder climate, although the ice on the roads sometimes poses a problem. Our office has a hybrid schedule, though, and we're remote Monday and Friday, so we just stay at home on bad weather days. The culture here is great. Everyone is pretty heavy on the sarcasm so I get to have a sense of humor at work :D
We do pretty much exclusively public work here, with a lot of schools and a lot of fire stations. I sketched concepts for one on my first day. The landscape was interesting because the building spans two levels that are offset from each other, and it's dug into the side of a hill. They've also had me doing a lot of CAD work, putting together construction documents and packaging them for presentations. This office has a ton of its own LISP routines to automate their CAD work and it's been fun to experiment with that and make my own additions to it, which got the engineers in the office super excited. They also had me do one rendering alone to see what I could do, then another where they gave me some direction on the style they'd like me to use. I'm learning a ton, but it's a low-stress position, which I enjoy.
I haven't gone out very much with the icy roads, but there are a few nice parks and things around here. I've mostly been doing a lot of cooking and catching up on reading in my free time. Regularly getting a full night of sleep has been wonderful. I've only done a little 3D printing but I'm planning to get back to it soon.
So felt on the extra sleep. I feel like going back for Senior year is gonna hit me like a truck.
