Hello  m y candy hearts and paper flowers! I hope everyone has been enjoying their internship! I know I have. I a m currently in Baton Rouge working at Ma k aira Landscape, which is a small landsc a pe and pool company that mostly serves single family residential homes. I’ve been working since the 21 st of January. There i s only one designer here, Joel, and he works as my boss for the most part. I mostly have been working on Photoshop plans and Autocad things here. Sometimes I get to sneak away on site visits. Mostly it’s just me going to a fancy house and measuring things and taking pictu r es. Also getting ambushed by the owners dogs. I don’t mind that too much though :3 This week, actually, I traveled to St. Francisville to survey a house and passed the Mary Ann Brown Preserve. I totally ended up visiting and e a ting lunch out there and it was so nice! Here is the office space I work in! There was a whole lot more that goes into it than I had imagined. Let me take you through the days step be step. We started by getting to know the clients wishes for his new driveway. He specified that he wanted good drainage, a kickout for additional parking, all with a brick inlay to accent them. Next, the old concrete had to go to give us a blank canvas. Taken to the concrete cemetery/monolith of waste With the canvas set, it was time for some fine-grading usuing the lazer lighthouse and some surgical shoveling to create as smooth of a surface as possible fo the imminent concrete slab. With the level ground tilting the way we want to encourage sheet flow away from the house, the form work was added. Sup guys, hope everyone is enjoying their time off of school lol. I’ve been here at Hocker Design Group in Dallas, Texas around a month now. I started on January 26, but it took a while to get my invite into the blog system.  I’ll start by explaining about Hocker Design Group. Hocker specializes in residential design which is super interesting to me and personally what I see myself working with in the future. They work on projects ranging from single family homes, penthouses, rooftop gardens, and even some ranches and estates. It’s a smaller sized firm, there is about 12 people in office and 2 more that work remote. I enjoy it here because everyone for the most part works on every project.  So far I have touched about 10 different projects, whether that be conceptual design, presentations showing design options, schematic plans, sketchup modeling, Lumion perspectives, CD and DD cad sheets, etc. I’m really enjoying it because I am touching so many different types of tasks....

Hi everyone! I’m really enjoying my time at Copley Wolff so far, everyone is super friendly and chill! We’ve had like 3 lunch n learns so that’s pretty great, free lunch AND rooftop terrace knowledge! Plus we have bagels every Friday morning from Bagelsaurus which really is incredibly motivating. I have done sooo many photoshop renders so far (plans, sections, and some concept mockups). They’re mostly for permitting or community meetings and consist of multi-family residential and mixed-use developments. I’ve also gotten to do some CAD sections, visioning presentations for clients, plant palettes, and land F/X, which is so refreshing to use with an established plant library! aforementioned bagels  I’m living in a cool, funky part of Cambridge, MA with only like a 25 minute commute on the train (the T) which is actually pretty functional and timely! It’s only been unreliable during the snowstorms, which have been kind of insane? We got a good couple feet of snow and its stuck around...

      Hi guys! Not a lot to share, just chugging along. Been working on the same projects I previously mentioned, and I was added to a super cool project called Campus for Hope. CFH is a campus for a program that helps unhoused people get the resources they need to get off the street. They have a medical center, rehab facilities, therapy, accounting advisors, housing consultants, etc. I've been doing some cad work but they've also had me sketch up some concepts for the playground! There is lots of emphasis on trauma informed design in this project so I'm reading lots of articles! (If you know of any good ones pls send my way!) I'm not complaining about avoiding the snow but it does make me concerned about the planet. hey guys hope everyone is settling in and enjoying their time. quick little update on what I’ve been up to. I have been extremely slammed balancing four different projects every week. like every single day feels full. it’s been a lot, but honestly super rewarding. right now I’m designing three concept alternatives for a local park near where I grew up, which makes it feel even more personal. the biggest shift has been how I’m drafting. normally I would just place elements where they make the most spatial sense and move on. now I’m working through overlays of desired paths, weed areas, habitat zones, and grading on a steep site trying to disturb as little as possible. -creating distinct concepts and drafting them in cad  this all started from our first workshop where we focused on understanding the land before designing on it. since then I’ve been doing most of the CAD drafting and a lot of the photoshop illustratives, translating those early sketches into real drawings.
