OJB (Houston) - Taylor - 3

Life these past two weeks have been really great here in Houston!  Work is busy as usual; the guys around me have been swamped lately so it's been hard to get progress reviews of some of the stuff I've been working on. Regardless, I'm keeping up with my tasks pretty well, so I guess I'll jump straight into some stuff I've finished up. 😁 Farish Hall is being demolished in our Centennial Plaza project at UH (equivalent of the main library being torn down at LSU) to make way for a huge quad space for students. A little throw in task they asked of us was to use remnants of the demo and create a memorial bench for it. The pieces we're working with are an elevator wheel and the beam it attaches to. Chandler gave me the assignment, but I had guidance from him and Andrew. Of course, when we finally found a design we liked and sent it over, they told us to remove the wheel 🫤. It's literally just a bench now, nothing "memorial" about it, whatever. The las...

Every 2 weeks so here we go again. Honestly not much to talk about for the last 2 weeks , week 2/9-2/15 was slightly boring, doing diagrams and stuff and was really waiting for Friday, gf came to visit Friday for Mardi Gras break, was legitimately just waiting for the week to pass.    Still on Moakley Team but slowing down a little, waiting on city and park's responses on changes, got to eat dinner with my Studio Director Joon, and had a wonderful happy hour Thursday. Hang out with gf during the weekend and joined dinner with a bunch of classmates. Had lunch with Yanchi again but no photos. Week 16-22 was all breaks pretty much. Monday President Day Tuesday Wednesday comp day from overtime Friday work from home  had dinner with company for Chinese New Year. no photos from me either. Chris Reed might have posted some?  It for the update. Really didn't work much this past 2 weeks so quite a shallow blog.

Daly Sublette New Orleans, Avery

hey whats up guys, i am interning at Daly Sublette in New Orleans. it s a Design Build Firm that mostly does residential work. It is a very New Orleans company, every body who works there is from new orleans and it it pretty well known through-out new orleans.  My dentist told me about the company (W networking?). the style of the design is also very new orleans, its aligns more closely with traditional style, but we do some more modern work.  it been nice being close with friends and family in new orleans, all though i did want to get out of the state for my internship.  i dont see myself working here longterm. this isnt really what got me into landscape architecture. Most of our project are pretty materialistic and wasteful, its mostly rich people building elaborate estates because they want to, and i also dont really like the style of our design, dont get me wrong we do very good work that looks great, but im not a big fan of tradtional style because ive seen thi...

🔼🔼  Curtis ⬆️⬆️   This past week or so has mostly been a continuation of previous projects among 3 different clients. A few drainage pipes installed and a few structures being constructed. Im finding myself enjoying the different relationships with clients as we get further along through projects.  Our first project was the drainage issues on a clients yard, which was an unfortunate miss-match of large muddy low areas around the front of the property. It was certainly interesting learning what goes into making the pipes a consistent slope.  After running water through the whole system, it really made it clear why catch basins are so impor...

Hey y'all, I'm a little late but I started at CH on the 19th! So far it's been a great experience and I have been able to work on a range of project from residential design lots of work for local school. My team focuses on the Treasure Coast of Florida, so the biggest adjustment has been learning all the plants they use out here. This includes A LOT of palms. I spend most of my time in CAD to create planting designs using Land F/x. I've got to join in on meetings with clients to go over their designs and give my input. I've been able to work on a lot of projects solo which has been a great experience and quickly been able to pick up on the company standards and how they want everything done.  Jupiter Lighthouse My office is located in Jupiter, which is about 20 minutes from where I'm staying outside of West Palm Beach. Jupiter is a beach town with the most beautiful crystal-clear beaches and the best weather I could ask for this time of year (I'm not prepar...

Design Workshop - Denver Marina Daniels

Hi everyone! I hope y'all are enjoying your internship as much as I am! As y'all know I'm at DW Denver, and I've worked on all sorts of projects. The one I spend the most time on is a super high-end residential ski home for -the CEO of McDonalds- and the amount of money they're spending makes me question how bad I need chicken nuggets. (I'm talking $75,000 firepits).      Additionally, the office is downtown, and since I'm staying with my mom I have a little commute but its kinda nice! I drive past Empower Field every day. The office culture is super laid back. Every friday they have a happy hour where for the last 2 hours of the day we all drink beer while we work.  I've made friends with my coworkers too! The office has more than just landscape architects, but we make up the majority. There are 4 LSU grads here, I think. I also saw Josh Crawford! He came into the Denver office and worked from here for a couple days. Below is...

OJB (Houston) - Taylor - 2

Hello again! I hope everyone has had a productive first month at their internships. I'm definitely starting to feel settled in at the office and I hope y'all have as well! The past two weeks have been a little bit of a changeup in terms of what I've been working on. Andrew, the principal in charge of our little group and who sits behind Chandler, sent me 16 sheets from a project they're revisiting that he wanted me to revise. Before this I had close to 0 experience with  AutoCAD  sheet sets and base drawings that Xref into each other in all sorts of ways, so I've learned a bunch.  "Here's some work, go drown." - Andrew 🫠 I definitely got thrown in the deep end with this assignment, but everyone around me were happy to answer my questions and guide me through things, including Andrew. He's a chill supervisor; he didn't put a timeline on finishing it (I'm still working on it after 2 weeks lol). He also likes to talk about his wife and daug...

DDG - Eileen Week 1-4

Hey everybody, I am currently at DDG this semester with Luke. As he’s already said, the first week was pretty hectic and we jumped into working with some of the projects they’re currently working on. Also the whole staff is super nice and gets together to have fun events for everyone to participate in which makes it feel more homier. So far I was able to pick color/pattern palettes that will be used for nearby construction across DDG that you’ll see next year when you’re back on campus, working with A LOT of signage, and redesigning St George Common Blvd! Luke and I also do weekly site visits, where we get to wear cool vests and helmets with DDGs logo on it! (Very professional 😌) Luke and I were able to visit a built project in Lafayette which was really cool since they incorporated a treehouse/ play area with the existing big Live Oaks. So far, it’s been pretty eventful and I’m excited to share more throughout the semester!

Philip Moser Associates - Mason Phillips Week 1-4

Philip Moser Weeks 1-4 Mason P Greetings all, I trust the internship grind is going well and is opening your professional eye. Philip Moser has really enlightened me on the intricacies of design work in the field.  The first few weeks have certainly been eventful... and back breaking in a way I couldn't have foreseen. Until now I hadnt connected the dots on just how much work even the simplest projects take to complete. I've helped build a variety of residential and commercial elements in my time here  To start the day,  everything has to be loaded and unloaded The real magic starts when you pick up the Bluestone  and start getting the hang of spacial relationships... and how heavy stone really is Slowly adding more elements in order, efficiency is key! Planting bet highlights the importance of their illuminated Oak And in the back, the real magic of flagstone formed We didn’t just stop at the ground plane  Everything is in the c...
